Screening at Apartment Projects
Concluding with this year’s Gallery Weekend, Apartment Projects hosts a screening of the video programme “The tongue has no bones; wherever you turn it, it turns” on April 29th. Put together by curator Misal Adnan Yıldız for his ongoing exhibition series “Mutterzunge” in relation to Emine Sevgi Özdamar’s eponymous novel and premiered in March at Kino Babylon, the programme seeks to explore language in context of migration and identity, converging around spoken, sign, and nonverbal language and engages with the political dimensions of diction, which functions both as a disciplining and transgressive instrument.
As part of the programme, my new video piece “If only I had the words”, in which I search for the possibility of a communication in the absence of words while meditating on my nonverbal relationship with my father, will be screened.
